How are news articles selected?

Sabi Ventures curates trending stories from a variety of sources, including news sites, social media, newsletters, and more. The goal is to deliver engaging articles on the topics you have selected.

Can I set different delivery times for different channels?

Yes. Each channel can have its own schedule and topics.

Does Channel Herald work in private channels?

Yes. Once invited, Channel Herald can deliver newsletters to both public and private channels.

Why don’t I see a newsletter posted for today?

Channel Herald publishes newsletters on weekdays. There are no posts on weekends or on major holidays.

How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter?

Type the command /channelherald in Slack to open the configuration modal. Deselect all topics to stop receiving newsletters.

What happens if I remove Channel Herald from a channel?

Newsletters will stop posting in that channel. You can re-add the app at any time.

Does Channel Herald store personal data?

Channel Herald only stores the minimal information needed to operate, such as your channel settings and the time zone of the user who configures it. It does not store or share message history or private data.

How do I configure Channel Herald?
  • Invite Channel Herald to the channel you wish the news to be sent to and then use a simple Slack command (/channelherald) to open the configuration modal.
  • Select your topics and preferred delivery time to match your team’s interests and schedule.
  • Enjoy fresh, formatted digests posted automatically to your chosen Slack channel each business day. Update or unsubscribe anytime.
What permissions does the Channel Herald Slack App have?
  • channels:read
    • View basic information about public channels in a workspace
    • This is needed to ensure the Slack App is added to the channel to ensure that it can write the newsletter to the channel when the time comes
  • groups:read
    • View basic information about private channels that Channel Herald has been added to
    • This is the same as the channel read permissions, but for private channels
  • chat:write
    • Send messages as @Channel Herald
    • This is needed so that Channel Herald can send the newsletter to the channel
  • commands
    • Add shortcuts and/or slash commands that people can use
    • This permission is needed so that you can interact with Channel Herald and configure it
  • users:read
    • View people in a workspace
    • This is to get basic information about the user who configures the app, such as their timezone.
What happens if I try to configure Channel Herald without inviting it to the channel?

Channel Herald needs your permission to send messages to the channel. If it is not added to the channel, an error message will display with instructions explaining how to invite the Slack app to your channel.
